Station at a Christmas Creche

From the Book of Occasional Services

At their entry into the church for the celebration of the Holy Eucharist, the Celebrant (and other ministers) may make a station at a Christmas Creche. The figure of the Christ Child may be carried in the procession and placed in the creche. Other figures may also be brought in if desired.

A versicle may be said, and one of the prayers which follow.

V. The word was made flesh and dwelt among us:

R. And we beheld his glory.

Or this

V. The glory of the Lord has been revealed:

R. And all flesh shall see the salvation of our God.

Let us pray.

Almighty and everliving God, you have given us a new revelation of your loving providence in the Coming of your Son Jesus Christ to be born of the Virgin Mary: Grant that as he shared our mortality, so we may share his eternity in the glory of your kingdom; where he lives and reigns for ever and ever. Amen.

or the following

O God our Creator, to restore our fallen race you spoke the effectual word, and the Eternal Word became flesh in the womb of the Blessed Virgin Mary: Mercifully grant that as he humbled himself to be clothed with our humanity, so we may be found worthy, in him to be clothed with his divinity; who lives and reigns for ever and ever. Amen.

or this

Most merciful and loving God, you have made this day holy by the incarnation of your Son Jesus Christ, and by tge child-bearing of the Blessed Virgin Mary: Grant that we your people may enter with joy into the celebration of this day, and may also rejoice for ever as your adopted sons and daughters; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
