Psalm 96
Cantate Domino
- 1 O sing a new song to the Lord,
sing to the Lord all the earth.
- 2 O sing to the Lord, bless his name.
Proclaim his help day by day,
- 3 tell among the nations his glory
and his wonders among all the peoples.
- 4 The Lord is great and worthy of praise,
to be feared above all gods;
- 5 the gods of the heathens are naught.
It was the Lord who made the heavens,
- 6 his are majesty and state and power
and splendor in his holy place.
- 7 Give the Lord, you families of peoples,
give the Lord glory and power;
- 8 give the Lord the glory of his name.
Bring an offering and enter his courts,
- 9 worship the Lord in his temple.
O earth, tremble before him.
- 10 Proclaim to the nations: God is king.
The world he made firm in its place;
he will judge the people in fairness.
- 11 Let the heavens rejoice and earth be glad,
let the sea and all within it thunder praise,
- 12 let the land and all it bears rejoice,
all the trees of the wood shout for joy
- 13 at the presence of the Lord for he comes,
he comes to rule the earth.
With justice he will rule the world,
he will judge the peoples with his truth.
Antiphon 2: A light has dawned for the just; joy has come to the upright of heart.
Psalm 97
Dominus regnavit
- 1 The Lord is king, let earth rejoice,
let all the coastlands be glad.
- 2 Cloud and darkness are his raiment;
his throne, justice and right.
- 3 A fire prepares his path;
it burns up his foes on every side.
- 4 His lightnings light up the world,
the earth trembles at the sight.
- 5 The mountains melt like wax
before the Lord of all the earth.
- 6 The skies proclaim his justice;
all peoples see his glory.
- 7 Let those who serve idols be ashamed,
those who boast of their worthless gods.
All you spirits, worship him.
- 8 Zion hears and is glad;
the people of Judah rejoice
because of your judgments, O Lord.
- 9 For you indeed are the Lord
most high above all the earth,
exalted far above all spirits.
- 10 The Lord loves those who hate evil;
he guards the souls of his saints;
he sets them free from the wicked.
- 11 Light shines forth for the just
and joy for the upright of heart.
- 12 Rejoice, you just, in the Lord;
give glory to his holy name.
Antiphon 3: The Lord has made known his saving power, alleluia. In these last days God has spoken to us through his Son.
Psalm 98
Cantate Domino
- 1 Sing a new song to the Lord
for he has worked wonders.
His right and hand his holy arm
have brought salvation.
- 2 The Lord has made know his salvation;
has shown his justice to the nations.
- 3 He has remembered his truth and love
for the house of Israel.
All the ends of the earth have seen
the salvation of our God.
- 4 Shout to the Lord, all the earth,
ring out your joy.
- 5 Sing psalms to the Lord with the harp
with the sound of music.
- 6 With trumpets and the sound of the horn
acclaim the King, the Lord.
- 7 Let the sea and all within it, thunder;
the world, and all its peoples.
- 8 Let the rivers clap their hands
and the hills ring out their joy
- 9 at the presence of the Lord: for he comes,
he comes to rule the earth.
He will rule the world with justice
and the peoples with fairness.
I say this so that no one may deceive you by specious arguments. For even if I am absent in the flesh, yet I am with you in spirit, rejoicing as I observe your good order and the firmness of your faith in Christ.
So, as you received Christ Jesus the Lord, walk in him, rooted in him and built upon him and established in the faith as you were taught, abounding in thanksgiving.
See to it that no one captivate you with an empty, seductive philosophy according to human tradition, according to the elemental powers of the world and not according to Christ.
For in him dwells the whole fullness of the deity bodily, and you share in this fullness in him, who is the head of every principality and power.
In him you were also circumcised with a circumcision not administered by hand, by stripping off the carnal body, with the circumcision of Christ. You were buried with him in baptism, in which you were also raised with him through faith in the power of God, who raised him from the dead.
And even when you were dead in transgressions and the uncircumcision of your flesh, he brought you to life along with him, having forgiven us all our transgressions; obliterating the bond against us, with its legal claims, which was opposed to us, he also removed it from our midst, nailing it to the cross; despoiling the principalities and the powers, he made a public spectacle of them, leading them away in triumph by it.
In baptism we were buried with Christ,
and in baptism we have risen to a new life with him
through our faith in the power of God.
- he is the head over every power and authority.
Ever-living God,
in the birth of your Son
our religion has its origin and its perfect fulfillment.
Help us to share in the life of Christ
for he is the salvation of mankind,
who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever.
