Evening Prayer
Monday before Epiphany

Reading - Colossians 1:13-16

God delivered us from the power of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins. He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. For in him were created all things in heaven and on earth, the visible and the invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers; all things were created through him and for him.

Responsory:
The Word was made flesh, alleluia, alleluia.
 - The Word was made flesh, alleluia, alleluia.
He lived among us.
 - Alleluia, alleluia.
Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.
 - The Word was made flesh, alleluia, alleluia.

Magnificat

Antiphon:O radiant child! You brought healing to human life as you came forth from the womb of Mary, your mother, like the bridegroom from his marriage chamber.

My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord,
my spirit rejoices in God my Savior; *
for he has looked with favor on his lowly servant.

From this day all generations will call me blessed: *
the Almighty has done great things for me,
and holy is his Name.

He has mercy on those who fear him *
in every generation.

He has shown the strength of his arm, *
he has scattered the proud in their conceit.

He has cast down the mighty from their thrones, *
and has lifted up the lowly.

He has filled the hungry with good things, *
and the rich he has sent away empty.

He has come to the help of his servant Israel, *
for he has remembered his promise of mercy,

The promise he made to our fathers, *
to Abraham and his children for ever.

Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit,
as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be,
world without end.
Amen.

Antiphon:O radiant child! You brought healing to human life as you came forth from the womb of Mary, your mother, like the bridegroom from his marriage chamber.

Intercessions

God spoke to us in many different ways through his prophets and last of all he spoke to us through his Son.  Let us invoke his compassion:

Kyrie Eleison

For your holy Church,
 - that your children may profess the name of the Savior with faith and with courage:

For those spreading the good news of salvation,
 - that the workers sent by you may preach the name of the Savior with full confidence:

For our sick brothers and sisters,
 - that they may regain their health by calling upon the name of the Savior:

For Christians subject to persecution,
 - that they may endure the injustice done them for the name of the Savior:

For our brothers and sisters who have died.
 - that through your compassion they may have life.

Our Father…

Closing Prayer:

Lord,
keep us true in the faith,
proclaiming that Christ your Son,
who is one with you in eternal glory,
became man and was born of a virgin mother.
free us from all evil
and lead us to the joy of eternal life.
We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
for he lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever.
