Easter Season
Wednesday Weeks 2-6

Invitatory

The Lord is risen, alleluia.

Morning Prayer

Antiphons, psalms and canticle from the current Wednesday in the Psalter

READING
If we have died with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him. We know that Christ, raised from the dead, dies no more; death no longer has power over him. As to his death, he died to sin once and for all; as to his life, he lives for God. Consequently, you too must think of yourselves as dead to sin and living for God in Christ Jesus. - Romans 6:8-11

RESPONSORY
The Lord is risen from the tomb, alleluia, alleluia.
 - The Lord is risen from the tomb, alleluia, alleluia.
He hung upon the cross for us,
 - alleluia, alleluia.
Glory to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit
 - The Lord is risen from the tomb, alleluia, alleluia.

BENEDICTUS (Canticle of Zechariah)
Antiphons
Week 2  God loved the world so much that he gave his only Son to save all who have faith in him, and to give them eternal life, alleluia.

Week 3  Whoever sees the Son and believes in him will live for ever, and I shall raise him up on the last day, alleluia.
Week 4  I am the light; I have come into the world, that those who believe in me may not remain in darkness, alleluia.
Week 5  I am the true vine, alleluia; you are the branches, alleluia.
Week 6  I have many more things to tell you, but they would be too much for you now. When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you to all truth, alleluia.

INTERCESSIONS

Weeks 2,4 and 6

By the gift of the Father, the risen Christ was seen by the apostles.  Let us pray to the Father, and say:
Give us, Lord, the glory of your Son.

Father of lights, today we offer you our thanks and praise for
calling us into your marvelous light,
 - to receive your mercy.

May the efforts of mankind to make the world more human,
 - be purified and strengthened by the power of your Spirit.

May we be so dedicated to the service of others,
 - that the whole human family may become a pleasing sacrifice in
your honor.

At the dawn of a new day, fill us with your mercy,
 - that the whole day may be a day of joy and praise.

Our Father...

Weeks 3 and 5

Christ was given up for our sins and rose again to make us righteous.
Let us cry out to him, saying:
Save us, Lord, by your victory.

Christ our Savior, in conquering death you brought us joy, in rising again you raised us up and
filled us with the abundance of your gifts,
 - stir up our hearts, and sanctify this day through the gift of your Holy Spirit.

You are glorified by the angels in heaven and adored by mankind on earth; as we celebrate your resurrection,
 - accept our worship in spirit and in truth.

Lord Jesus, save us; show your great mercy to your people, as we look forward to our own resurrection,
 - have mercy on us, and protect us today from every evil.

King of glory, source of our life, grant that, when you come again,
 - we may be one with you in glory.

Our Father...

PRAYER

Week 2  God of mercy,
you have filled us with the hope of resurrection
by restoring man to his original dignity.
May we who relive this mystery each year
come to share it in perpetual love.
Grant this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever.

Week 3  Merciful Lord,
hear the prayers of your people.
May we who have received your gift of faith
share for ever in the new life of Christ.
Grant this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever.

Week 4  God our Father,
life of the faithful,
glory of the humble,
happiness of the just,
hear our prayer.
Fill our emptiness
with the blessing of the Eucharist,
the foretaste of eternal joy.
We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever.

Week 5  Father of all holiness,
guide our hearts to you.
Keep in the light of your truth
all those you have freed from the darkness of unbelief.
We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever.

Week 6  Lord,
as we celebrate your Son’s resurrection,
so may we rejoice with all the saints
when he returns in glory,
who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever.

PRAYER
As in Morning Prayer

Vespers

Antiphons, psalms and canticle from the current Wednesday in the Psalter

For Week 6, see Evening Prayer I of Ascension.

READING
Jesus, because he remains forever, has a priesthood that does not pass away. Therefore, he is always able to save those who approach God through him, since he lives forever to make intercession for them. It was fitting that we should have such a high priest: holy, innocent, undefiled, separated from sinners, higher than the heavens. He has no need, as did the high priests, to offer sacrifice day after day, first for his own sins and then for those of the people; he did that once for all when he offered himself. - Hebrews 7:24-27

RESPONSORY
The disciples rejoiced, alleluia, alleluia.
 - The disciples rejoiced, alleluia, alleluia.
When they saw the risen Lord,
 - alleluia, alleluia.
Glory to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit
 - The disciples rejoiced, alleluia, alleluia.

MAGNIFICAT (Canticle of Mary)
Antiphons
Week 2  The man of God welcomes the light that searches his deeds and finds them true, alleluia.
Week 3  All that the Father gives me will come to me, and whoever comes to me I shall not turn away, alleluia.
Week 4  God sent his Son into the world not as its judge but as its saviour, alleluia.
Week 5  If you live in me and my words live in you, all you ask for will be yours, alleluia.

INTERCESSIONS

Weeks 2 and 4

In his Son, risen from the dead, God has opened for us the way to everlasting life. Let us ask the Father:
Through the victory of Christ, save the people he has redeemed.

God of our fathers, you raised your Son Jesus from the dead and
 - clothed him in glory; move our hearts to complete repentance, that we may walk in newness of life.

You have led us back to the shepherd and bishop of our souls,
 - keep us faithful under the guidance of the shepherds of the Church.

You chose the firstfruits of Christ’s disciples from the Jewish
people,
 - reveal to the children of Israel the fulfillment of the promise made to their forefathers.

Remember the lonely, the orphaned and the widowed,
 - and do not abandon those who have been reconciled with you by the death of your Son.

You called Stephen to your presence when he bore witness to Jesus, standing at your right hand,
 - welcome our deceased brothers and sisters who in faith and love hoped for the vision of your glory.

Our Father...

Weeks 3 and 5

Christ rose from the dead and is seated at the right hand of the Father. Let us pray to him, saying:
Lord Jesus, you live for ever: hear our prayer.

Lord, remember all who minister in your service:
  -  may their holy lives be an example to your people.

Give to those who govern us the spirit of justice and peace,
  -  so that the human family may live in harmony.

Guide our days in the way of salvation,
  -  and fill the earth with your plenty for the sake of the needy.

Christ our Saviour, light of the world you have called creation from death to life,
  -  may your light shine for ever on ou departed brothers and sisters.

Our Father...
