Lord, open our lips.
And our mouth shall proclaim your praise.
Glory to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit
As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, unto the ages of ages. Amen
HYMN
The word of God, proceeding forth
yet leaving not his Father's side,
and going to his work on earth
had reached at length life's eventide.
By false disciple to be given
to foemen, for his blood athirst,
himself, the living Bread from heaven,
he gave to his disciples first.
In twofold form of sacrament
he gave his Flesh, he gave his Blood,
that man, of twofold substance blent,
might wholly feed on mystic food.
In birth man's fellow-man was he,
his meat while sitting at the board;
he died, his ransomer to be,
he reigns to be his great reward.
All praise and thanks to thee ascend
for evermore, blest One in Three;
O grant us life that shall not end
in our true native land with thee.
Antiphons, Psalms and Canticles are from the prayer of the day.
READING Jeremiah 11:19-20
But I was like a gentle lamb
led to the slaughter.
And I did not know it was against me
that they devised schemes, saying,
'Let us destroy the tree with its fruit,
let us cut him off from the land of the living,
so that his name will no longer be remembered!'
But you, O Lord of hosts, who judge righteously,
who try the heart and the mind,
let me see your retribution upon them,
for to you I have committed my cause.
RESPONSORY

Father, righteous one, the world does not know you, but I know you because you are the one who sent me.
INTERCESSIONS
Let us pray to Christ our Savior, who redeemed us by his death and resurrection:
Lord, have mercy on us.
You went up to Jerusalem to suffer and so enter into your glory,
lead your Church into the Paschal feast of heaven. (R.) You were lifted high on the cross and pierced by the soldier's lance,
heal our wounds. (R.)
You made your cross the tree of life,
grant its fruit to those reborn into baptism. (R.)
One the cross, you forgave the repentant thief,
forgive us our sins. (R.)

Daytime Prayer
HYMN
O sacred Head, now wounded, with grief and shame weighed down,
Now scornfully surrounded with thorns, Thine only crown;
How pale Thou art with anguish, with sore abuse and scorn!
How does that visage languish, which once was bright as morn!
What Thou, my Lord, hast suffered, was all for sinners' gain;
Mine, mine was the transgression, but Thine the deadly pain.
Lo, here I fall, my Savior! 'Tis I deserve Thy place;
Look on me with Thy favor, vouchsafe to me Thy grace.
O God, make speed to save us.
O Lord, make haste to help us
Glory to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit
As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, unto the ages of ages. Amen
TERCE Antiphon: Before the feast of the Passover, Jesus knew that his hour had come; he had always loved those who were his own, and now he would show them the depth of his love.

Responsory

Through it, we have received the sacrament of reconciliation.
Collect
Almighty God, whose dear Son went not up to joy but first he suffered pain, and entered not into glory before he was crucified: Mercifully grant that we, walking in the way of the cross, may find it none other that the way of life and peace; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
Almighty God, as we stand at the foot of the cross of your Son, help us to see and know your love for us, so that in humility, love and joy we may place at his feet all that we have and all that we are; through Jesus Christ our Saviour. Amen.
V Let us bless the Lord. R Thanks be to God.
May the life-giving cross
be the source of all our joy and peace. Amen.
Evening Prayer II
O God, make speed to save us.
O Lord, make haste to help us
Glory to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit
Antiphons, Psalms and Canticles are from the prayer of the day.
HYMN
When I survey the wondrous cross
On which the Prince of glory died,
My richest gain I count but loss,
And pour contempt on all my pride.
Forbid it, Lord, that I should boast,
Save in the death of Christ my God;
The vain delights that charm me most:
I sacrifice them to his blood.
See from his head, his hands, his feet
What grief and love flow mingling down;
Did e’er such Love and sorrow meet,
Or thorns compose so rich a crown?
Were all the realm of nature mine,
That were a present far too small;
Love so amazing, so divine,
Demands my soul, my life, my all.
READING Romans 5:6-10
For while we were still weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly. Indeed, rarely will anyone die for a righteous personthough perhaps for a good person someone might actually dare to die. But God proves his love for us in that while we still were sinners Christ died for us. Much more surely then, now that we have been justified by his blood, will we be saved through him from the wrath of God. For if while we were enemies, we were reconciled to God through the death of his Son, much more surely, having been reconciled, will we be saved by his life.
RESPONSORY
We worship you, O Christ and we praise you.
We worship you, O Christ and we praise you.
Because by your cross you have redeemed the world.
- We praise you.
Glory to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit.
We worship you, O Christ and we praise you.
MAGNIFICAT(Canticle of Mary) Antiphon:
As Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so must the Son of Man be lifted up, so that all who believe in him may have eternal life.
INTERCESSIONS
The savior of mankind by dying destroyed death and by rising restored life. Let us humbly ask him:
Sanctify your people, redeemed by your blood.
Redeemer of the world, give us a greater share of your passion through a deeper spirit of repentance,
so that we may share the glory of your resurrection. (R.)
May your Mother, comfort of the afflicted, protect us,
may we console others as you console us. (R.)
Look with love on those who suffer because of our indifference,
come to their aid, and turn our uncaring hearts to justice and charity. (R.)
You humbled yourself by being obedient even to accepting death, death on a cross,
give all who serve you the gifts of obedience and patient endurance. (R.)
Transform the bodies of the dead to be like your own in glory,
and bring us at last into their fellowship. (R.)
