EASTER TUESDAY

Daytime Prayer
Psalter, Tuesday, Week I

God, come to my assistance.
- Lord, make haste to help me.

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit:
 -  as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be for ever.
Amen. Alleluia.

HYMN
-

Refrain: Hail thee, festival day!
Blest day that art hallowed forever;
day wherein Christ arose,
breaking the kingdom of death.

Lo, the fair beauty of earth,
from the death of the winter arising,
every good gift of the year
now with its Master returns. Refrain

He who was nailed to the Cross
is God and the Ruler of all things;
all things created on earth
worship the Maker of all. Refrain

God of all pity and power,
let thy word be assured to the doubted;
light on the third day returns:
rise, Son of God, from the tomb! Refrain

Loosen, O Lord, the enchained,
the spirits imprisoned in darkness;
rescue, recall into life those
who are rushing to death. Refrain

Rise now, O Lord, from the grave
and cast off the shroud that enwrapped thee;
thou art sufficient for us;
darkness and chaos and death
flee from the face of the light. Refrain

TERCE
Antiphon: Christ is risen from the dead and will never die again, alleluia.

Psalms of the Day

This is the stone rejected by you the builders, but which has proved to be the keystone. For of all the names in the world given to men, this is the only one by which we can be saved. - Acts 4:11 - 12

Responsory
This is the day the Lord has made, alleluia.
  -   Let us rejoice and be glad in it, alleluia.

COLLECT

O God, who have bestowed on us paschal remedies,
endow your people with heavenly gifts,
so that, possessed of perfect freedom,
they may rejoice in heaven
over what gladdens them now on earth.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
God, for ever and ever.

SEXT
Antiphon: He was handed over to death for our sins; he was raised to life to justify us, alleluia.

Psalms of the Day

Now you are saved by baptism. This is not the washing off of physical dirt but a pledge made to God from a good conscience, through the resurrection of Jesus Christ, who has entered heaven and is at God's right hand. - 1 Peter 3:21-22

Responsory
This is the day the Lord has made, alleluia.
  -   Let us rejoice and be glad in it, alleluia.

Psalms of the Day

Since you have been brought back to true life with Christ, you must look for the things that are in heaven, where Christ is, sitting at God's right hand. Let your thoughts be on heavenly things, not on the things that are on the earth. - Colossians 3:1 - 2

Responsory
This is the day the Lord has made, alleluia.
  -   Let us rejoice and be glad in it, alleluia.

PSALMODY

Psalm 119:1-8
I (Aleph)
Meditation on God's law
Loving God means keeping his commandments (1 John 5:3)

They are happy whose life is blameless,
who follow God's law!
They are happy who do his will,
seeking him with all their hearts,

who never do anything evil
but walk in his ways.
You have laid down your precepts
to be obeyed with care.

May my footsteps be firm
to obey your statutes.
Then I shall not be put to shame
as I heed your commands.

I will thank you with an upright heart
as I learn your decrees.
I will obey your statutes;
do not forsake me. Glory...

Psalm Prayer: Lord God, you proclaim victorious those whose lives are blameless and give your law to those who seek it. Make us seek your righteous ways in our hearts.

Psalm 16
The Lord himself is my heritage

The Father raised up Jesus, freeing him from the grip of death (Acts 2:24)
Preserve me, God, I take refuge in you.
I say to you Lord "You are my God.
My happiness lies in you alone."

You have put into my heart a marvelous love
for the faithful ones who dwell in your land.
Those who choose other gods increase their sorrows.
Never will I offer their offerings of blood.
Never will I take their name upon my lips.

O Lord, it is you who are my portion and cup,
it is you yourself who are my prize.
The lot marked out for me is my delight,
welcome indeed the heritage that falls to me!

I will bless the Lord who gives me counsel,
who even at night directs my heart.
I keep the Lord ever in my sight:
since he is at my right hand, I shall stand firm.

And so my heart rejoices, my soul is glad;
even my body shall rest in safety.
For you will not leave my soul among the dead,
nor let your beloved know decay.

You will show me the path of life,
the fullness of joy in your presence,
at your right hand happiness for ever. Glory...

Psalm 23
The Good Shepherd
The lamb himself will be their shepherd and will lead them to the springs of living waters. (Revelation 7:17)

The Lord is my shepherd;
there is nothing I shall want.
Fresh and green are the pastures
where he gives me repose.
Near restful waters he leads me,
to revive my drooping spirit.

He guides me along the right path;
he is true to his name.
If I should walk in the valley of darkness
no evil would I fear.
You are there with your crook and your staff;
with these you give me comfort.

You have prepared a banquet for me
in the sight of my foes.
My head you have anointed with oil;
my cup is overflowing.

Surely goodness and kindness shall follow me
all the days of my life.
In the Lord's own house shall I dwell
for ever and ever. Glory...

Let us praise the Lord.
- And give him thanks.
