Morning Prayer

God, come to my assistance.
 - Lord, make haste to help me.
Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit:
 -  as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be for ever.
Amen. Alleluia.

HYMN

Father, Lord of earth and heaven,
King to whom all gifts belong,
give Your greatest Gift, your Spirit,
God the holy, God the strong.

Son of God. enthroned in glory,
Send your promised Gift of grace,
Make your Church your Holy Temple,
God the Spirit's dwelling place.

Spirit, come, in peace descending
As at Jordan, heavenly Dove,
Seal your Church as God's anointed,
Set our hearts on fire with love.

Stay among us, God the Father,
stay among us, God the Son,
stay among us, Holy Spirit:
dwell within us, make us one.

PSALMODY

Antiphon 1: O Lord, how good and gentle is your Spirit in us, alleluia.

Psalm 63:2-9

O God, you are my God, for you I long;
for you my soul is thirsting.
My body pines for you
like a dry, weary land without water.
So I gaze on you in the sanctuary
to see your strength and your glory.

For your love is better than life,
my lips will speak your praise.
So I will bless you all my life,
in your name I will lift up my hands.
My soul shall be filled as with a banquet,
my mouth shall praise you with joy.

On my bed I remember you.
On you I muse through the night
for you have been my help;
in the shadow of your wings I rejoice.
My soul clings to you;
your right hand holds me fast. Glory...

Antiphon 1: O Lord, how good and gentle is your Spirit in us, alleluia.

Antiphon 2: Let streams and rivers and all creatures that live in the waters sing praise to God, alleluia.

Antiphon 2: Give glory to the King of kings, sing praise to God, alleluia.

Antiphon 3: The apostles preached in different tongues and proclaimed the great works of God, alleluia.

Psalm 149

Sing a new song to the Lord,
his praise in the assembly of the faithful.
Let Israel rejoice in its maker,
let Zion’s sons exult in their king.
Let them praise his name with dancing
and make music with timbrel and harp.

For the Lord takes delight in his people.
He crowns the poor with salvation.
Let the faithful rejoice in their glory,
shout for joy and take their rest.
Let the praise of God be on their lips
and a two-edged sword in their hand,

to deal out vengeance to the nations
and punishment on all the peoples;
to bind their kings in chains
and their nobles in fetters of iron;
to carry out the sentence pre-ordained;
this honor is for all his faithful. Glory...

Antiphon 3: The apostles preached in different tongues and proclaimed the great works of God, alleluia.

READING          Acts 5:30-32
The God of our ancestors raised Jesus, though you had him killed by hanging him on a tree. God exalted him at his right hand as leader and savior to grant Israel repentance and forgiveness of sins. We are witnesses of these things, as is the holy Spirit that God has given to those who obey him.

RESPONSORY
All were filled with the Holy Spirit, alleluia, alleluia.
- All were filled with the Holy Spirit, alleluia, alleluia..
They began to speak,
- alleluia, alleluia.
Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit,
- All were filled with the Holy Spirit, alleluia, alleluia.

BENEDICTUS (Canticle of Zechariah)
Antiphon: Receive the Holy Spirit; the sins of those you forgive shall be forgiven, alleluia.

INTERCESSIONS
Christ the Lord has gathered his Church in unity through the Spirit. With sure hope let us ask him:

Lord, make the whole world new.

Lord Jesus, when you were raised high upon the cross, streams of living water flowed from your pierced side,
- pour out on us your life-giving Spirit.

In glory at the right hand of God, you gave the Gift of the Father to your disciples,
- send forth your Spirit to renew the world.

You gave your Spirit to the apostles, with the power to forgive sins.
- destroy all sin in the world.

You promised us the Holy Spirit to teach us all things and remind us of all you had said,
- send us your Spirit to enlighten our minds in faith.

You promised to send the Spirit of truth, to bear witness to yourself,
- send forth your Spirit to make us your faithful witnesses.

Our Father...

COLLECT

Almighty ever-living God,
who willed the Paschal Mystery
to be encompassed as a sign in fifty days,
grant that from out of the scattered nations
the confusion of many tongues
may be gathered by heavenly grace
into one great confession of your name.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
God, for ever and ever.

Or:

Grant, we pray, almighty God,
that the splendor of your glory
may shine forth upon us
and that, by the bright rays of the Holy Spirit,
the light of your light may confirm the hearts
of those born again by your grace.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
God, for ever and ever.

Or:

O God, who by the mystery of today’s great feast
sanctify your whole Church in every people and nation,
pour out, we pray, the gifts of the Holy Spirit
across the face of the earth
and, with the divine grace that was at work
when the Gospel was first proclaimed,
fill now once more the hearts of believers.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
God, for ever and ever.

May the Lord bless us, protect us from all evil and bring us to everlasting life. Amen.
