Morning Prayer
Psalter, Sunday Week I

God, come to my assistance.
 - Lord, make haste to help me.
Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit:
 -  as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be for ever.
Amen. (Alleluia.)

HYMN
-
Heart of Christ, we sing Thy praises,
Wellspring of eternal life!
Through the sorrows of Thy Passion
We find refuge from our strife.

Heart of Christ, Thou dost embody
All the wonder of God's Love!
Thou dost tell the tender mercies
Showered from our God above!

Heart of Christ, Who bringest healing
To the lowly and the weak,
Let us know Thy loving kindness,
Show Thyself to all who seek!
Melody: Stuttgart 87.87.D; Music: C.F. Witts Psalmodia Sacra 1715; Text: Melvin Farrell, S.S.

Or:

-
To Christ, the Prince of peace,
And Son of God most high,
The Father of the world to come,
We lift our joyful cry.

Deep in His heart for us
The wound of love He bore,
That love which He enkindles still
In hearts that Him adore.

O Jesu, Victim blest,
What else but love divine
Could Thee constrain to open thus
That sacred heart of Thine?

O wondrous Fount of love,
O Well of waters free,
O heavenly Flame, refining Fire,
O burning Charity!

Hide us in Thy dear heart,
Jesu, our Savior blest,
So shall we find Thy plenteous grace
And Heav’n’s eternal rest.

PSALMODY

Antiphon 1: Jesus stood and cried out: If anyone thirsts, let him come to me and drink.

    Psalm 63:2-9

O God, you are my God, for you I long;
for you my soul is thirsting.
My body pines for you
like a dry, weary land without water.
So I gaze on you in the sanctuary
to see your strength and your glory.

For your love is better than life,
my lips will speak your praise.
So I will bless you all my life,
in your name I will lift up my hands.
My soul shall be filled as with a banquet,
my mouth shall praise you with joy.

On my bed I remember you.
On you I muse through the night
for you have been my help;
in the shadow of your wings I rejoice.
My soul clings to you;
your right hand holds me fast. Glory...

Antiphon 1 Jesus stood and cried out: If anyone thirsts, let him come to me and drink.

Antiphon 2 Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest.

Antiphon 2 Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest.

Antiphon 3 My son, give me your heart; note carefully the way I point out to you.

    Psalm 149

Sing a new song to the Lord,
his praise in the assembly of the faithful.
Let Israel rejoice in its maker,
let Zion’s sons exult in their king.
Let them praise his name with dancing
and make music with timbrel and harp.

For the Lord takes delight in his people.
He crowns the poor with salvation.
Let the faithful rejoice in their glory,
shout for joy and take their rest.
Let the praise of God be on their lips
and a two-edged sword in their hand,

to deal out vengeance to the nations
and punishment on all the peoples;
to bind their kings in chains
and their nobles in fetters of iron;
to carry out the sentence pre-ordained;
this honor is for all his faithful. Glory...

Antiphon 3 My son, give me your heart; note carefully the way I point out to you.

READING     Jeremiah 31:33
This is the covenant which I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the Lord. I will place my law within them, and write it upon their hearts; I will be their God, and they shall be my people.

 - Take my yoke upon you and learn from me.

INTERCESSIONS
Brethren, let us pray to the Lord Jesus, who is meek and humble of heart; let us ask him:

Most loving Lord, have mercy on us.

Jesus, the fullness of divinity dwells in you,,
- give us a share in your divine life.

Jesus, in you are all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge,
- make known to us through your church the manifold wisdom of God.

Jesus , King and center of all hearts, you love us and lead us to yourself with unending love and mercy,
- renew your covenant with all people.

Jesus, the Father was well pleased in you,
- help us to hear your word and keep it.

Jesus, of your fullness we have all received.
- pour out upon us in abundance the Father's favor and truth.

Jesus, you are the source of life and holiness,
- make us holy and blameless in love.

Our Father...

COLLECT
Grant, we pray, almighty God,
that we, who glory in the Heart of your beloved Son
and recall the wonders of his love for us,
may be made worthy to receive
an overflowing measure of grace
from that fount of heavenly gifts.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
God, for ever and ever.

Or:

O God, who in the Heart of your Son,
wounded by our sins,
bestow on us in mercy
the boundless treasures of your love,
grant, we pray,
that, in paying him the homage of our devotion,
we may also offer worthy reparation.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
God, for ever and ever.

May the Lord bless us, protect us from all evil and bring us to everlasting life. Amen.
