Evening Prayer I
Feast of the Christ the King
Last Sunday of Pentecost, or Ordinary Time
______

O God, make speed to save us.
O Lord, make haste to help us.

Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit,
as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be,
world without end.
Amen.

HYMN

Crown him with many crowns,
the Lamb upon his throne.
Hark! How the heav'nly anthem drowns
all music but its own.
Awake, my soul, and sing
Of him who died for thee,
and hail him as thy matchless King
through all eternity.

Crown him the Lord of Lords,
who over all doth reign,
who once on earth, the incarnate Word,
for ransomed sinners slain,
now lives in realms of light,
where saints with angels sing
their songs before him day and night,
their God, Redeemer, King.

Crown him the Lord of Heav'n,
enthroned in worlds above,
crown him the King to whom is giv'n
the wondrous name of Love.
Crown him with many crowns,
as thrones before him fall;
Crown him, ye kings, with many crowns,
for he is King of all.

Psalmody

Antiphon: We will call him the peacemaker, and his throne shall stand firm for ever.

Antiphon: We will call him the peacemaker, and his throne shall stand firm for ever.

Antiphon: His kingdom will endure forever, and all the kings of the earth will serve and obey him.

Antiphon: His kingdom will endure forever, and all the kings of the earth will serve and obey him.

Antiphon: The authority and honor of a king has been given to Christ; all peoples, tribes and nations will serve him forever.

CanticleRevelation 4:11; 5:9, 10, 12

O Lord our God, you are worthy
to receive glory and honor and power,
for you have created all things;
by your will they came to be and were made.

Worthy are you, O Lord
to receive the scroll and break open its seals.

For you were slain;
with your blood you purchased for God
those from every tribe and tongue,
of every people and nation.

You made them a kingdom,
and priests to serve our God,
and they shall reign on earth."

Worthy is the Lamb that was slain
to receive power and riches,
wisdom and strength,
honor and glory and praise.

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit: *
as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be for ever. Amen.

Antiphon: The authority and honor of a king has been given to Christ; all peoples, tribes and nations will serve him forever.

Reading

God raised Christ from the dead and seated him at his right hand in heaven, high above every principality, power, virtue and domination, and every name that can be given in this age or in the age to come. He has put all things under Christ's feet and has made him, thus exalted, head of the church, which is his body: the fullness of him who fills the universe in all its parts. - Ephesians 1:20-23

Responsory:
Yours is the splendor and the power;
yours is the kingdom, O Lord.
  -  Yours is the splendor and the power;
yours is the kingdom, O Lord.

You will rule over all.
  -  Yours is the kingdom, O Lord.

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit,
  -  Yours is the splendor and the power;
yours is the kingdom, O Lord.

Magnificat

Antiphon: The Lord God will give him the throne of David his ancestor; he will rule in the house of Jacob forever, and his kingdom will have no end, alleluia.

My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord,
my spirit rejoices in God my Savior; *
for he has looked with favor on his lowly servant.

From this day all generations will call me blessed: *
the Almighty has done great things for me,
and holy is his Name.

He has mercy on those who fear him *
in every generation.

He has shown the strength of his arm, *
he has scattered the proud in their conceit.

He has cast down the mighty from their thrones, *
and has lifted up the lowly.

He has filled the hungry with good things, *
and the rich he has sent away empty.

He has come to the help of his servant Israel, *
for he has remembered his promise of mercy,

The promise he made to our fathers, *
to Abraham and his children for ever.

Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit,
as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be,
world without end.
Amen.

Antiphon: The Lord God will give him the throne of David his ancestor; he will rule in the house of Jacob forever, and his kingdom will have no end, alleluia.

Intercessions

Let us pray to Christ the King. He is the firstborn of all creation; all things exist in him.
(R.) May your kingdom come, O Lord.

Christ, our king and shepherd, gather your sheep from every land.
 - Give them pasture in green and fertile meadows. (R.)

Christ, our leader and savior, form all men into your own people, heal the sick, seek out the lost, guard the strong,
 - call back those who have wandered away, strengthen those who waver, gather all sheep into one flock. (R.)

Judge of all ages, when you hand over your kingdom to the Father, place us at your right hand,
 - so that we may inherit the kingdom prepared for us from the beginning of the world. (R.)

Prince of peace, break the weapons of war,
 - and inspire the nations with your peace. (R.)

Christ, heir of all nations, gather humanity and all the good things of your creation into the kingdom of your Church which your Father bestowed on you,
 - so that the whole body of your people, united in the Holy Spirit, may acknowledge you as their head. (R.)

Christ, firstborn of the dead and first fruits of those who have fallen asleep in death,
 - bring all who have died to the glory of the resurrection. (R.)

Our Father…

Closing Prayer:

Almighty and merciful God,
you break the power of evil
and make all things new in your Son Jesus Christ, the King of the universe:
May all in heaven and earth proclaim your glory
and never cease to praise you.
We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
Who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
