Morning Prayer

Invitatory
The Invitatory opens the first Office of the day. If the Office of Readings is the first Office of the day, begin below.

Lord, open my lips.
 - And my mouth shall proclaim your praise.

Psalm 95 is the traditional Invitatory Psalm. Psalm 24, 67, or 100 may be substituted.

Antiphon: Come, let us worship the King of glory, exalted on high.

Morning Prayer

God, come to my assistance.
 - Lord, make haste to help me.
Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit:
 -  as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be for ever.
Amen. Alleluia.

HYMN

O raise your eyes on high and see
There stands our sovereign Lord,
His glory is this day revealed,
His Word a two-edged sword.

We glimpse the splendor and the power
Of him who conquered death,
The Christ in whom the universe
Knows God's creating breath.

Of every creed and nation King
In him all strife is stilled;
The promise made to Abraham
In him has been fulfilled.

The prophets stand and with great joy
Give witness as they gaze;
The Father with a sign has sealed
Our trust, our hope,our praise,

This glory that today our eyes
Have glimpsed of God's own Son
Will help us ever sing with Love
Of Three who are but One.
Melody: This endris night C.M. Music: Prinknash Tone Text: Ralph Wright, O.S.B.

Or:

Jesu dulcis memoria
Dans vera cordis gaudia:
Sed super mel et omnia
Ejus dulcis pręsentia.

Nil canitur suavius,
Nil auditur jucundius
Nil cogitatur dulcius
Quam Jesus Dei filius.

Jesu dulcedo cordium,
fons vivus, lumen mentium,
excedens omne gaudium,
et omne desiderium.

Quando cor nostrum visitas,
tunc lucet ei veritas,
mundi vilescit vanitas,
et intus fervet caritas

Da nobis largus veniam,
amoris tui copiam;
da nobis per pręsentiam
tuam videre gloriam.

Laudes tibi nos pangimus,
dilectus es qui Filius,
quem Patris atque Spiritus
splendor revelat inclitus. Amen.

The very thought of Jesus Christ
To troubled soul brings peace and cheer,
Beyond all honey and delights
It is to feel his presence near.

No sweeter Name the voice can sing,
More pleasing sound the ear finds none,
No better thought can come to mind
Than that of Jesus, God the Son.

O Jesus, joy of every heart,
True fount of life and sacred fire,
The thought of you surpasses all
Our longings and the soul's desire.

And when you visit us unseen,
Our hearts are bathed in truth and light,
The joys of earth grow old and dim
As love for you asserts its right.

Increase the ardor of our love,
And heal our wounds with pardon blest;
May we one day your glory see
And ever in your presence rest.

Christ Jesus Lord, we praise your Name,
Beloved Son, for us you died,
But with the Spirit now you reign
For ever by the Father's side. Amen.

PSALMODY

Antiphon 1: Today the Lord Jesus Christ shone with splendor on the mountain, his face like the sun and his clothes as white as snow, alleluia, alleluia.

O God, you are my God, for you I long;
for you my soul is thirsting.
My body pines for you
like a dry, weary land without water.
So I gaze on you in the sanctuary
to see your strength and your glory.

For your love is better than life,
my lips will speak your praise.
So I will bless you all my life,
in your name I will lift up my hands.
My soul shall be filled as with a banquet,
my mouth shall praise you with joy.

On my bed I remember you.
On you I muse through the night
for you have been my help;
in the shadow of your wings I rejoice.
My soul clings to you;
your right hand holds me fast. Glory...

Antiphon 1: Today the Lord Jesus Christ shone with splendor on the mountain, his face like the sun and his clothes as white as snow, alleluia, alleluia.

Antiphon 2: Today the Lord was transfigured and the voice of the Father bore witness to him; Moses and Elijah appeared with him in glory and spoke with him about the death he was to undergo, alleluia.

Antiphon 3: The law was given through Moses and prophecy through Elijah. Radiant in the divine majesty, they were seen speaking with the Lord, alleluia.

Psalm 149
The joy of God's holy people

Let the sons of the Church, the children of the new people, rejoice in Christ, their King (Hesychius)
Sing a new song to the Lord,
his praise in the assembly of the faithful.
Let Israel rejoice in its maker,
let Zion’s sons exult in their king.
Let them praise his name with dancing
and make music with timbrel and harp.

For the Lord takes delight in his people.
He crowns the poor with salvation.
Let the faithful rejoice in their glory,
shout for joy and take their rest.
Let the praise of God be on their lips
and a two-edged sword in their hand,

to deal out vengeance to the nations
and punishment on all the peoples;
to bind their kings in chains
and their nobles in fetters of iron;
to carry out the sentence pre-ordained;
this honor is for all his faithful. Glory...

Ant. 3: The law was given through Moses and prophecy through Elijah. Radiant in the divine majesty, they were seen speaking with the Lord, alleluia.

READING          Revelation 21:10,23
He took me in spirit to a great, high mountain and showed me the holy city Jerusalem coming down out of heaven from God. The twelve gates were twelve pearls, each of the gates made from a single pearl; and the street of the city was of pure gold, transparent as glass.

RESPONSORY
With glory and honor, Lord, you have crowned him.
 - With glory and honor, Lord, you have crowned him.
You set him over the works of your hands.
 - Lord, you have crowned him.
Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit,
 - With glory and honor, Lord, you have crowned him.

BENEDICTUS (Canticle of Zechariah)
Antiphon:A voice spoke from the cloud: This is my beloved Son in who I am well pleased. Listen to Him.

INTERCESSIONS
In the presence of his disciples our Savior was wonderfully transfigured on Mount Tabor. Let us pray to him with confidence:

                      Lord, in your light may we see light.

Father of mercies, you glorified your heavenly Son and revealed yourself in the bright cloud,
- grant that we may listen in faith to have a love for the word of Christ.

O God, you have filled your chosen people with the bounty of your house,
- grant that we may always find the source of our life in the body of Christ.

O God, you have scattered the darkness with your light and have poured your light into our hearts so that we might look upon the radiant face of Jesus Christ
- nourish in us the desires to contemplate your beloved Son.

O God, according to your plan, you have called us to holiness by your grace which you have revealed in Jesus Christ,
- through your Gospel show us the way so we could share in your mission of glorious splendor of unending life.

Loving Father, you have so loved us that we have been called to be sons of God,
- when Christ comes grant us that we may be like him.

Our Father…

COLLECT
O God, who in the glorious Transfiguration
of your Only Begotten Son
confirmed the mysteries of faith by the witness of the Fathers
and wonderfully prefigured our full adoption to sonship,
grant, we pray, to your servants,
that, listening to the voice of your beloved Son,
we may merit to become co-heirs with him.
Who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
