Matthew Paris's The Life of St. Alban

Matthew Paris was a Benedictine Monk, artist, and English chronicler who died in AD 1259. One of his works was the Life of St. Alban, which he illustrated.

Below are some illustrations from this work.

Amphibalus the priest baptizing converts, including Alban.

Pagans try to persuade Alban to worship the god Phoebus.

On his way to execution, Alban prays and a stream of water issues from the ground for him to drink from.
