12But the LORD has pleasure in those who fear him, *
in those who await his gracious favor.
13Worship the LORD, O Jerusalem; *
praise your God, O Zion;
14For he has strengthened the bars of your gates; *
he has blessed your children within you.
15He has established peace on your borders; *
he satisfies you with the finest wheat.
16He sends out his command to the earth, *
and his word runs very swiftly.
17He gives snow like wool; *
he scatters hoarfrost like ashes.
18He scatters his hail like bread crumbs; *
who can stand against his cold?
19He sends forth his word and melts them; *
he blows with his wind, and the waters flow.
20He declares his word to Jacob, *
his statutes and his judgments to Israel.
21He has not done so to any other nation; *
to them he has not revealed his judgments.
Hallelujah!
Ant. 3: The eternal Word, born of the father before time began, today emptied himself for our sake and became man (alleuia].

Genesis 3:1-15
Now the serpent was more crafty than any other wild animal that the LORD God had made. He said to the woman, Did God say, You shall not eat from any tree in the garden?
The woman said to the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees in the garden;
but God said, You shall not eat of the fruit of the tree that is in the middle of the garden, nor shall you touch it, or you shall die.
But the serpent said to the woman, You will not die;
for God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.
So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was to be desired to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate; and she also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate.
Then the eyes of both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together and made loincloths for themselves.
They heard the sound of the LORD God walking in the garden at the time of the evening breeze, and the man and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God among the trees of the garden.
But the LORD God called to the man, and said to him, Where are you?
He said, I heard the sound of you in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked; and I hid myself.
He said, Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten from the tree of which I commanded you not to eat?
The man said, The woman whom you gave to be with me, she gave me fruit from the tree, and I ate.
Then the LORD God said to the woman, What is this that you have done? The woman said, The serpent tricked me, and I ate.
The LORD God said to the serpent, Because you have done this, cursed are you among all animals and among all wild creatures; upon your belly you shall go, and dust you shall eat all the days of your life.
I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and hers; he will strike your head, and you will strike his heel.

Glory to you, Lord God of our fathers; *
you are worthy of praise; glory to you.
Glory to you for the radiance of you holy Name; *
we will praise you and highly exalt you for ever.
Glory to you in the splendor of your temple; *
on the throne of your majesty, glory to you.
Glory to you, seated between the Cherubim; *
we will praise you and highly exalt you for ever.
Glory to you, beholding the depths; *
in the high vault of heaven, glory to you.
Glory to you, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit; *
we will praise you and highly exalt you for ever.
Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit,
as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be,

Romans 5:12-21
Therefore, just as sin came into the world through one man, and death came through sin, and so death spread to all because all have sinned
sin was indeed in the world before the law, but sin is not reckoned when there is no law.
Yet death exercised dominion from Adam to Moses, even over those whose sins were not like the transgression of Adam, who is a type of the one who was to come.
But the free gift is not like the trespass. For if the many died through the one mans trespass, much more surely have the grace of God and the free gift in the grace of the one man, Jesus Christ, abounded for the many.
And the free gift is not like the effect of the one mans sin. For the judgment following one trespass brought condemnation, but the free gift following many trespasses brings justification.
If, because of the one mans trespass, death exercised dominion through that one, much more surely will those who receive the abundance of grace and the free gift of righteousness exercise dominion in life through the one man, Jesus Christ.
Therefore just as one mans trespass led to condemnation for all, so one mans act of righteousness leads to justification and life for all.
For just as by the one mans disobedience the many were made sinners, so by the one mans obedience the many will be made righteous.
But law came in, with the result that the trespass multiplied; but where sin increased, grace abounded all the more,
so that, just as sin exercised dominion in death, so grace might also exercise dominion through justification leading to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Galatians 4:1-7
My point is this: heirs, as long as they are minors, are no better than slaves, though they are the owners of all the property;
but they remain under guardians and trustees until the date set by the father.
So with us; while we were minors, we were enslaved to the elemental spirits of the world.
But when the fullness of time had come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under the law,
in order to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoption as children.
And because you are children, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, crying, Abba! Father!
So you are no longer a slave but a child, and if a child then also an heir, through God.
Second Canticle
Magnificat
Antiphon: The Holy Spirit will come upon you Mary, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you.
My soul magnifies the Lord,
my spirit rejoices in God my Savior; *
for he has looked with favor on his lowly servant.
From this day all generations will call me blessed: *
the Almighty has done great things for me,
and holy is his Name.
He has mercy on those who fear him *
in every generation.
He has shown the strength of his arm, *
he has scattered the proud in their conceit.
He has cast down the mighty from their thrones, *
and has lifted up the lowly.
He has filled the hungry with good things, *
and the rich he has sent away empty.
He has come to the help of his servant Israel, *
for he has remembered his promise of mercy,
The promise he made to our fathers, *
to Abraham and his children for ever.
Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit,
as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be,
world without end.
Amen.
Antiphon: The Holy Spirit will come upon you Mary, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you.
Responsory
A flower has sprung from Jesse's stock and a star has risen from Jacob.
A flower has sprung from Jesse's stock and a star has risen from Jacob.
The Virgin has conceived a Saviour,
and a star has risen from Jacob.
Glory to the Father, and to the Son and to he Holy Spirit
A flower has sprung from Jesse's stock and a star has risen from Jacob.
Collect
Pour your grace into our hearts, O Lord, that we who have known the incarnation of your Son Jesus Christ, announced by an angel to the Virgin Mary, may by his cross and passion be brought to the glory of his resurrection; who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.
Intercessions
On this day the eternal Father sent his angel to bring Mary the good news of our salvation. Let us turn to God and pray with confidence:
(R.)Lord, fill our hearts with your love.
You chose the Virgin Mary as the mother of your Son,
- have mercy on all who look for your gift of salvation.(R.)
You sent Gabriel to give Mary your message of peace and joy,
- give to the whole world the joy of salvation and your gift of true peace.(R.)
Mary gave her consent, the Holy Spirit overshadowed her, and your Word came to dwell among us,
- touch our hearts that we may welcome Christ as Mary did.(R.)
You look with love on the humble, and fill the hungry with your gifts,
- raise up the downcast, help all in need, comfort and strengthen the dying.(R.)
Lord our God, you alone work wonders and with you all things are possible,
- give us the fullness of salvation when you raise up the dead on the last day.(R.)
Our Father
Closing Prayer:
God our Father,
your Word became flesh and was born of the Virgin Mary.
May we become more like Jesus Christ,
whom we acknowledge as our redeemer, God and man.
We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord,
Who live and reigns with you and Holy Spirit
One God, forever and ever, Amen.
