Feast Day: January 17

1 Peter 5:6-10
Psalm 91:9-16 or Psalm 1
Mark 10:17-21

1 Peter 5:6-10
Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, so that he may exalt you in due time. Cast all your anxiety on him, because he cares for you. Discipline yourselves, keep alert. Like a roaring lion your adversary the devil prowls around, looking for someone to devour. Resist him, steadfast in your faith, for you know that your brothers and sisters in all the world are undergoing the same kinds of suffering. And after you have suffered for a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, support, strengthen, and establish you.

Psalm 91:9-16
Qui habitat

Because you have made the Lord your refuge •
and the Most High your stronghold,

There shall no evil happen to you, •
neither shall any plague come near your tent.

For he shall give his angels charge over you, •
to keep you in all your ways.

They shall bear you in their hands, •
lest you dash your foot against a stone.

You shall tread upon the lion and adder; •
the young lion and the serpent you shall trample underfoot.

Because they have set their love upon me,
therefore will I deliver them; •
I will lift them up, because they know my name.

They will call upon me and I will answer them; •
I am with them in trouble,
I will deliver them and bring them to honour.

With long life will I satisfy them •
  and show them my salvation.

Psalm 1
Beatus vir qui non abiit

Blessed is the man
who has not walked in the counsel of the ungodly :•
nor followed the way of sinners,
nor taken his seat amongst the scornful.

But his delight is in the law of the Lord :•
and on that law will he ponder day and night.

He is like a tree planted beside streams of water :•
that yields its fruit in due season.

Its leaves also shall not wither :•
and look, whatever he does, it shall prosper.

As for the ungodly, it is not so with them :•
they are like the chaff which the wind scatters.

Therefore the ungodly shall not stand up at the judgement :•
nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous.

For the Lord cares for the way of the righteous :•
but the way of the ungodly shall perish.

Mark 10:17-21
'As Jesus was setting out on a journey, a man ran up and knelt before him, and asked him, "Good Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?" Jesus said to him, "Why do you call me good? No one is good but God alone. You know the commandments: `You shall not murder; You shall not commit adultery; You shall not steal; You shall not bear false witness; You shall not defraud; Honor your father and mother.'" He said to him, "Teacher, I have kept all these since my youth." Jesus, looking at him, loved him and said, "You lack one thing; go, sell what you own, and give the money to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; then come, follow me."
