HOLY INNOCENTS
December 28

Daytime Prayer

God, come to my assistance.
- Lord, make haste to help me.

Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit,
as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be,
world without end.
Amen.

TERCE

PSALMS

Antiphon: Mary, the mother of Jesus, and Joseph were filled with wonder at all that was said of the child.

At one of the hours, the Psalms of the Day, below, are said. At the other hours, the complementary psalms are used.

READING                            Lamentations 1:16
At this I weep,
my eyes run with tears:
My sons were reduced to silence
when the enemy prevailed.

God clothed them in gladness,
     - And crowned them in glory.

COLLECT
O God, whom the Holy Innocents confessed
and proclaimed on this day,
not by speaking but by dying,
grant, we pray,
that the faith in you which we confess with our lips
may also speak through our manner of life.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
God, for ever and ever.

SEXT

PSALMS

Antiphon: Mary treasured all these words and pondered them in her heart.

At one of the hours, the Psalms of the Day, below, are said. At the other hours, the complementary psalms are used.

READING                            Lamentations 2:11
Worn out from weeping are my eyes,
within me all is in ferment;
As child and infant faint away
in the open spaces of the town.

The just shall live for ever,
-To live in God is their reward.

COLLECT
O God, whom the Holy Innocents confessed
and proclaimed on this day,
not by speaking but by dying,
grant, we pray,
that the faith in you which we confess with our lips
may also speak through our manner of life.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
God, for ever and ever.

NONE

PSALMS

Antiphon: My own eyes have seen the salvation which you have prepared in the sight of every people.

At one of the hours, the Psalms of the Day, below, are said. At the other hours, the complementary psalms are used.

READING                            Jeremiah 31:16,17a
Cease your cries of mourning,
wipe the tears from your eyes.
The sorrow you have shown
shall have its reward,
There is hope for your future,
says the Lord.

The saints will exult in glory.
     - They will sing for joy as they bow down before the Lord.
