WEEK VII - SATURDAY

Daytime Prayer

God, come to my assistance.
- Lord, make haste to help me.

Glory to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit,
As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen. Alleuia.

HYMN

Alleluia! Sing to Jesus!
Hail Thee Festival Day

Or:

Hymns for Ascensiontide

Or:

-
Most ancient of all mysteries,
before thy throne we lie;
have mercy now, most merciful,
most holy Trinity.

When heaven and earth were yet unmade,
when time was yet unknown,
thou in thy bliss and majesty
didst live and love alone.

Thou wast not born; there was no fount
from which thy being flowed;
there is no end which thou canst reach:
but thou art simply God.

How wonderful creation is,
the work which thou didst bless!
And O what then must thou belike,
eternal Loveliness!

Most ancient of all mysteries,
low at thy throne we lie;
have mercy now, most merciful,
most holy Trinity.

At one of the hours, the psalms are said as below. At the other hours, the complementary psalms are used.

PSALMODY

Antiphon: Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia.

Psalm 119:121-128
XVI (Ain)

I have done what is right and just:
let me not be oppressed.
Vouch for the welfare of your servant
lest the proud oppress me.

My eyes yearn for your saving help
and the promise of your justice.
Treat your servant with love
and teach me your statutes.

I am your servant, give me knowledge;
then I shall know your will.
It is time for the Lord to act
for your law has been broken.

That is why I love your commands
more than finest gold,
why I rule my life by your precepts,
and hate false ways. Glory...

Psalm Prayer: The light of your words, Father, gives understadning to little ones. Prepare our heart to receive the advocate, your Holy Spirit.

Psalm 34
God the savior of the just
You have tasted the sweetness of the Lord. (1 Peter 2:3)

                    I
I will bless the Lord at all times,
his praise always on my lips;
in the Lord my soul shall make its boast.
The humble shall hear and be glad.

Glorify the Lord with me.
Together let us praise his name.
I sought the Lord and he answered me;
from all my terrors he set me free.

Look towards him and be radiant;
let your faces not be abashed.
This poor man called, the Lord heard him
and rescued him from all his distress.

The angel of the Lord is encamped
around those who revere him, to rescue them.
Taste and see that the Lord is good.
He is happy who seeks refuge in him.

Revere the Lord, you his saints.
They lack nothing, those who revere him.
Strong lions suffer want and go hungry
but those who seek the Lord lack no blessing. Glory...

                    II
Come, children, and hear me
that I may teach you the fear of the Lord.
Who is he who longs for life
and many days, to enjoy his prosperity?

Then keep your tongue from evil
and your lips from speaking deceit.
Turn aside from evil and do good;
seek and strive after peace.

The Lord turns his face against the wicked
to destroy their remembrance from the earth.
The Lord turns his eyes to the just
and his ears to their appeal.

They call and the Lord hears
and rescues them in all their distress.
The Lord is close to the broken-hearted;
those whose spirit is crushed he will save.

Many are the trials of the just man
but from them all the Lord will rescue him.
He will keep guard over all his bones,
not one of his bones shall be broken.

Evil brings death to the wicked;
those who hate the good are doomed.
The Lord ransoms the souls of his servants.
Those who hide in him shall not be condemned. Glory...

Psalm Prayer: Graciously hear us, Lord, for we seek only you. You are near to those whose heart is right. Open yourself to accept our sorrowful spirit; calm our bodies and minds with the peace which surpasses understanding.

Antiphon: Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia.

READING
When we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, we were still enemies; now that we have been reconciled, surely we may count on being saved by the life of his Son? Not merely because we have been reconciled but because we are filled with joyful trust in God, through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have already gained our reconciliation. - Romans 5:10-11

The Lord is risen, alleluia.
  -   He has appeared to Simon, alleluia.

COLLECT
Grant, we pray, almighty God,
that we, who have celebrated the paschal festivities,
may by your gift hold fast to them
in the way that we live our lives.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
God, for ever and ever.

Christ has been raised from the dead, the first-fruits of all who have fallen asleep. Death came through one man and in the same way the resurrection of the dead has come through one man. Just as all men die in Adam, so all men will be brought to life in Christ. - 1 Corinthians 15:20-22

The disciples rejoiced, alleluia.
  -   When they saw the risen Lord, alleluia.

READING
The love of Christ overwhelms us when we reflect that if one man has died for all, then all men should be dead. The reason he died for all was so that living men should live no longer for themselves, but for him who died and was raised to life for them. - 2 Corinthians 5:14-15

Stay with us Lord, alleluia.
  -   For evening draws near, alleluia.

COLLECT
Grant, we pray, almighty God,

may by your gift hold fast to them
in the way that we live our lives.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,

Let us praise the Lord.
- And give him thanks.
